First International Filhos de Bimba Capoerê Roda

On Saturday 18 June, all of the Entities of the Filhos de Bimba Escola de Capoeira worldwide will be doing rodas in order to raise funds for the kids Capoerê Project in Brazil. The Capoerê Project was developed to help kids from disadvantaged neighborhoods. They learn capoeira, maculêlê, samba de roda, puxada de rede and other Afro-Brazilian cultural manifestations that offer them new skills and opportunities. Many of our teachers came from this programme and now lead successful professional lives teaching capoeira and dance, both inside and outside of Brazil.

Professor Chapinha will be giving a Samba de Roda & Afro-Brazilian dance class before the roda.

16:30 - 17:30: Afro-Samba Class with Professor Chapinha
Fee: L.L10,000 (Entrance to Roda for Free)

18:00 - 19:00: Roda
Fee: L.L5,000

The Roda and the Dance Class will take place in the Academy of FBEC in Jal El Dib.

Interview with Mestre Nenel: Social Development through Capoeira

Mestre Nenel featured in Volta Ao Mundo newsletter issue #5.

More and more we are witnessing Lebanon becoming a hub for Capoeira enthusiasts, being visited by world renowned Mestres (highest ranking in this martial art) since 2008. We were once again fortunate to meet and train with a mestre who comes from a lineage rich in Capoeira. He is Mestre Nenel, son of Manuel dos Reis Machado the famous Mestre Bimba, creator of "Capoeira Regional".

Capoeira strengthens cultural exchange between Brazil and Lebanon

Filhos de Bimba Lebanon and Mestre Nenel featured on Instituto da Cultura Árabe.

Lebanon received between 19 and 24 April, a visit from the Capoeirista Mestre Nenel (Manoel Nascimento Machado), son of the legendary Mestre Bimba (Manuel dos Reis Machado - 1900-1974), one of the most famous capoeiristas who's also considered the father of Capoeira Regional, which he created in 1928 - a mix of batuque and Capoeira Angola.

Besouro Preto by Salim Rollins looks deeply into the mysterious world of Capoeira, it's historic evolution from Africa to Brazil, its spiritual/religious traditions, its philosophy and then into the life of one of its biggest enigmas.

CAPOEIRA ON SCREEN! - January Program

The month of January will be dedicated to a very important legend in the history of Capoeira: Besouro Mangagá. The screenings will begin on January 8 with the film of João Daniel Tikhomiroff: Besouro. Followed on January 22 by the documentary of Salim Rollins: Besouro Preto (Black Beetle).

As part of its cultural initiative and its fundraising events, the Association Filhos de Bimba - Lebanon is proud to present its first set of screenings. Throughout the various documentaries and movies it will be showing, it will be depicting the different views on Capoeira and the Afro-Brazilian culture as seen by Mestres of Capoeira, scholars, historians, and practitioners. The first movie will be screened on January 8, 2011.
